The longer we leave toilet training our children, the longer the bad habits are being reinforced. Subsequently, the dependancy on the "nappy" and the problems this brings, becomes harder and harder to break. When you then add a "terrible two's toddler" into the mix, (the recommended age to start toilet training - are they crazy!?!) you can guarantee, a whole extra bag of challenges to delight any parent.
Now you are not only dealing with the physical, uncontrollable challenges created from wearing a nappy for over two years of your child's life, eg. inability to determine which muscles to use to actually release waste - you also have now a mix of strong will, ingrained bad habits, personality, defiance, fear of change, lack of interest, boredom, screaming, ability to say "NO!", tantrums, and you can fill in the rest!
The table below lists some of the challenges that our Toilet Training Kits and Discounts Packs can help you with and how.

THE SOLUTION
|
HOW?
|
|
Behaviourial problems associated with waiting till your child is 2 years and over. Physical problems associated with toilet training your child late. |
By using the right tools and methods you can confidently toilet train your child at whatever age you are ready to, whether it be a baby at four months old or a toddler under two years. |
Our Toilet Training Kits provide parents with a tool to help toilet train their child from around 14 months onwards. THE COMPLETE PACK contains a book called Early-Start Potty Training by Dr Sonna, which outlines the methods and procedures for potty training a baby up to a toddler, and provides solutions to common toilet training problems. |
|
My child refuses to use the toilet / potty. |
By making toilet training a positive, fun experience your child will want to go to the toilet and will be more inclined to respond positively to your requests. |
Our Toilet Training Kits are fun and exciting, utilising methods and products that children love, to help them focus instead on an enjoyable activity versus a scary, new one. THE BULLET-PROOF BOY PACK contains a product called a Weeman which enables boys to wee standing up at the toilet. The ability to be "Just Like Dad" and the novelty of using the Weeman, is often another incentive to encourage boys to use the toilet. |
|
My child is inconsistent with going to the toilet. It is hard to keep him focused. |
By giving your child something else to focus on that they enjoy, this allows them to be more consistent in the activity of going to the toilet without them even realising they are being toilet trained. |
By utilising the stickers and "Prize Box" system in our Toilet Training Kits, every fifth success is rewarded, providing a means to focus on something positive that is fun and enjoyable. This activity is repeated often enough to keep encouraging children to use the toilet more consistently to create the desired habit of being toilet trained. |
|
Tantrums, Defiance, Fear of Change & New Skills |
Often the hardest step is the first one. Toilet Training can be delayed by months, if not longer just because parents are unable to get past the negative actions of their child in the beginning. By creating ownership of the new activity you are introducing, you can bring your child onto your side as a team member. They will be then more accepting of new ideas and less apt for negative behaviour. |
Our Toilet Training Kits create ownership from the beginning, helping children accept the new ideas and methods you are trying to implement. The parcel they receive is addressed with your child's name on it, so they are receiving their very own special package in the mail. The excitement created by opening up their parcel, immediately warms your child to what is contained within the package to help you introduce it. Your attitude and how excited you are helps a lot in this situation. You then put your child's name on the Toilet Chart found within the kit. Again, this creates a more obliging child, with their very own special chart to focus on. This feeling of ownership created, helps reduce or eliminate any possible tantrums, fears, etc. as they actually want to use their chart and the products enclosed. |
|
My child does wees on the toilet, but not poos. She only wants to do poos in her nappy or runs away and hides to do it. |
First you have to establish if there are any underlying problems out of your child's control and address these before any other methods are employed. Things like constipation are a common cause of pooing challenges. Please see your doctor if you have any concerns whatsoever. If it is established then, that motivation or fear is the route cause of your child's actions, then you can address these with methods to help relax your child, so that their muscles can relax to do poos. |
There are child remedies on the market that can help with things like constipation and your doctor can recommend the best thing for your child. In mild cases more natural remedies are things like 100% Pear Juice and prunes can work well as a laxative. A healthy diet with fresh fruit and vegetables and lots of water is a good preventative. If motivation or fear is a problem, by employing the methods and tools in our Toilet Training Kits, it gives the ability for your child to focus on something fun and exciting which in turn can help take their mind off the fear of pooing and / or give them the interest to start. The flexibility of our Toilet Training Kits gives parents the ability to tailor the products and methods to suit their child. You can use the kit purely for poos only, if wees are already mastered, and administer stickers and rewards accordingly. |

I have a baby under 12 months and I am unsure of starting them this early. |
You need to be emotionally ready and confident to start the toilet training process at any age, whether your child is 4 months or 2 years. Potty training a baby versus leaving them in nappies to expel waste, involves more time and commitment. It is a lot easier to take the nappy path, as we don't have to think about it, it is deemed "normal", and the nappy is taking care of it for us. Peer pressure is another factor that can deter parents as no-one else is doing it, and everyone always has an opinion, whether it is based on facts or not. You need to assess where you are at to determine if you are ready to toilet train your child and gain the right information to make an informed decision. |
The best way to gain confidence is to gain knowledge. Often it is the unknown that creates fear in our lives, not the actual event itself. Early-Start Potty Training by Dr Linda Sonna is an excellent resource that covers all aspects of toilet training for children of all ages. In particular it covers all the pros and cons, methods and tips for toilet training a baby under 12 months to a toddler. The information in this book is backed up with facts and history to assist you in making an informed decision. Whether you employ the methods suggested to potty train a baby, or decide to wait until you child is older, then it is still an invaluable resource covering all age groups. www.pottytraining.com.au has also collated a number of articles on early potty training, downloadable from our website for your convenience. THE COMPLETE PACK which includes Early-Start Potty Training, a Toilet Training Kit and Reward Chart is recommended for parents with children aged from about 14 months plus. This an excellent collection of products to give you the best preparation for toilet training your child, and hence the confidence to successfully carry it out. |
