I used to work in a child care centre and this was a common problem with children of this age. We found after talking to them that we could usually find out why they did not go and most of the time it was because they were scared of pooing for some reason or another. some times it was as simple as being constipated once and that memory sticks around. For these children we found that if the parent took them to the doctor and asked for a light laxitive then they would get over that fear pritty quickly. We had one child who was scared of what would happen to her poo afterwards like where did it really go. WE told her a very simplistc story of it goes down some tubes and is cleaned and then sent to make the gardens all greaner. This seemed to work for her. Another child was scared about the amout of time they had to spend on their own while pooing. We put up pictures for them to look at and a mirror for them to talk to themselves. This relaxed the child enough that they could do it and they were excited about spending more time in there. The pictures we used were of this he loved and family members and he sat down and chose them out with up and we put them up togeather. Try some of these and see if your son can tell you why he dosn't want to poo in the toilet you maybe surprised. You will need to have this conversation say at the dinner table when he is cofortable and dose not feel like you are pushing him to go any time soon. |
